Maintaining the Mission

One thing about Mettle Ops that inspires me the most is our dedication to the company mission. Every company wide meeting we are aligned with our motto “Warfighters First”. Everything we do as a company, every process we make, every step we take toward quality, is all to protect the warfighter. I believe that having a strong mission is essential to aligning a large organization of people. Without one, most people would work toward their own self-interest or simply bringing the company profit. Profits can be a measure of how well the company achieved its mission but should never be the primary motivating factor for the company’s employees.
Working in accounting and finance, I believe that the mission of the company can get lost easier than other departments. Working with numbers and spreadsheets can make one lose sight of what the company is actually accomplishing and how vital certain processes are. Maintaining financial accuracy avoids delays in audits, increases the speed and accuracy in which our programs operate, allows for better credit opportunities, and allows the company to efficiently protect the warfighter.
One thing that I have improved at my time at Mettle Ops is making sure that I understand the importance of my work and the real-world effect it has. Doing this decreases burnout and increases my drive to perform my job at the highest level possible. Our monthly company meetings are the best way I find myself realigning myself with the mission and I am sure others feel that way too. However, it is still extremely important for every employee to continue working with purpose all the way through the month.
