The Chaos of May

May always feels like a turning point for me.
The weather changes, summer sport seasons ramp up, and every weekend seems to book up fast. Goals that felt exciting in January suddenly start feeling heavy. For a lot of people, this is the month where motivation starts to fade and the reality of their daily habits starts to kick in.
I’ve noticed something in my own life through coaching, sales, leadership, and even running events: Most growth doesn’t happen when you are ready and fully prepared. It happens when you decide to show up anyways.
There have been plenty of days where I didn’t feel prepared enough and just wasn’t sure how it was all going to come together. I have felt like I didn’t have enough experience, motivation, or confidence. Days where it would have been easier to stay comfortable, stay quiet or push things off until “later.”
I have learned that God rarely grows people through comfort and complacency. Most of the shaping happens during the challenge, pressure, uncertainty, and hardship. When life feels easy, it is natural to become comfortable, distracted, or dependent on ourselves instead of depending on Him.
The Bible compares God to a potter and us to a clay. A potter doesn’t shape clay by leaving it untouched. It must be molded, stretched, pressed, and refined into something useful. In the same way, God often uses the difficulty situations and seasons in our lives to shape our character, strengthen our faith, and prepare us for future endeavors of life.
Some of the biggest opportunities I’ve had come from simply being willing to step into situations before I had everything figured out. Coaching teams. Leading people. Running tournaments. Talking to customers. Taking responsibility when things didn't go as planned. There will always be challenges and reasons to hesitate. The people who grow are usually the people who move forward anyways.
In today's culture, people often chase quick results and instant success. But the most meaningful things in life take patience. Trust takes time, Leadership takes time, Growth takes time.
May is a good reminder that progress usually looks less glamorous than people expect. Sometimes progress is simply continuing to show up with a good attitude, continuing to serve people well, and continuing to improve little by little.
You don’t need to have everything figured out to take the next step.
You just need to be willing to start.
