Psalm 46:10 “ Be still, and know that I am God …”

To me, STILL means “STOP doing”, “don’t move”, “be quiet”, “be calm”, “be tranquil”, “be free from noise or turmoil”, “be untroubled”, “be peaceful”, or “be serene”. In all honesty, I am very uncomfortable being still. My very personality screams DRIVEN and PERPETUAL MOTION! The busyness of life carries me from one accomplishment to another, makes plenty of time for fun with family and friends, uses extraordinary energy on meaningless tasks … basically makes MY WAY the priority of life … seldom considering God and what He wants me to do … BUT GOD asks me to BE STILL! Does that mean do nothing? NO! He does work everything together for good (Romans 8:28), but I am given a responsibility to obey and follow His commandments. And He is commanding me to BE STILL and KNOW that He is God! What does that mean?
STOP DOING and LISTEN to God! He is revealing Himself to me through His Word. Knowing God is the way I can survive living each day in this sin-cursed world. I am not able to do this on my own because I am neither strong enough nor smart enough. I am comforted that God encourages me to focus on Him. For He is where I can find peace and comfort.
God is Sovereign. He either causes things to happen or allows things to happen. To be able to TRUST HIM with all of life’s circumstances, I need to KNOW HIM. This will allow our relationship and bond to grow stronger. Relationships that are not based on trust are not allowed to grow and simply do not survive. I am commanded to persevere in my faith, and I desire to continue seeking, knowing and submitting to my loving Savior. He is worthy!
Heavenly Father – what a powerful verse!! Even though this goes against my very nature, please help me to continue in this area of “being still”, “trusting you”, and “knowing you”. My heart desires to have our relationship grow and abound more every day! Thank you for your Word, your love, and grace.
Help me to walk worthy until I look upon your face!!!
