Big Life Moves and Smart Business Moves Aren’t That Different

After years of looking for a house, I am happy to report that I will be closing on a house at the end of March. Stepping into this new phase of my life has made me reflect on everything we went through to get here. The housing market was a real struggle when I first started looking. I thought I was ready to take on the huge responsibility of it all. That was until every house we put in an offer for had people paying thousands of dollars out of pocket in the form of an appraisal gap guarantee. Unfortunately, I was willing to be one of those people because I wanted to get into a house so badly that I wasn’t thinking about being realistic or the timing of it all. Luckily, the other people were always higher with their offers, so we didn’t get caught up in it. In this case, having patience is extremely important, which is also so true in business. Sometimes you have to weather the storm while being patient because there will always be obstacles in business, but timing is everything. It is very important to be patient while making business decisions and not to do anything irrational. That is when you can lose money big time.

I was hesitant to get back into the housing market recently because I didn’t want to go through the same thing we did before, but when buying a house there will never be perfect conditions. I had to focus on what I could control, which is my decision making and being strategic while keeping patient. I believe the same thing applies to business as well. This time I knew I would be able to take my time and search for something that was a good fit without overextending. Low and behold, we got our offer accepted on the first house we put an offer in for, no appraisal gap guarantees in sight! I truly believe the Lord was trying to teach me about patience. I had to learn that getting any of these houses and having to put money for it out of pocket (that doesn’t even go towards the equity of the house) was not going to be good for me. I learned patience and found the right timing on the perfect house, and now I am confident that I am truly ready for the next phase of my life.
