Process and Repeatability

This summer one of my main tasks has been the movement of QuickBooks Data to ERP templates to load historical data into the new system. Working on this task I learned about the importance of creating process and repeatability. In my time at Mettle Ops, I have seen process after process in action. I never truly appreciated the effort that is put in to create these processes and how much time they save.
This summer I learned firsthand how difficult work can be without processes. For the ERP history load I had to figure out what reports to print and what data to load without any historical precedent or process to go off. All I had was the template in front of me.
After my first attempt at January’s data, I realized that I had not written or documented any part of my process I had just been winging it the entire time. To get February done I would have to recreate my process from memory. I ended up having to redo January’s data due to miscommunication on what was needed.
While I was frustrated having to redo January, this gave me the perfect opportunity to develop and stick to a process. For this second attempt I was much wiser and wrote down my entire process with step-by-step instructions to make it easier to follow.
Working on this history load showed me how important creating process is and how important repeatability is in the workplace. No matter how small the task process will save future you and the company time.
