Do Right Even When It Is Difficult

Have you ever worked with people who seem to have an agenda that’s different from what they were hired to do? “Having an agenda” is usually perceived negatively, implying a hidden or self-serving motive. This individual does not appear interested in supporting efforts to build a successful team. Their focus seems to be primarily on themselves and their image rather than on the collective goals of the company’s success. Before I continue, I’ll acknowledge that all of us, including myself, can admit to wanting to look good and be recognized for our efforts. We all struggle with pride to some degree, but I advocate for doing what is right, regardless of personal cost.
DO RIGHT even when:
It is difficult.
It exposes lessons learned from mistakes you have personally made.
The world urges you to “do whatever feels best.”
No one is watching or telling you to do so.
Mark Twain said, “It is never wrong to do the right thing”. True! Your conscience is never troubled when you act with integrity. I will add that doing the right thing isn’t always easy. However, we need to do the right thing anyway! No second thoughts … just do it! Integrity speaks volumes to people like me! It builds trust and strong relationships. Isn’t that what we need to move forward as a team and succeed?
I strive to live with integrity by doing what is right, regardless of how I feel, and I am a woman of my word. Recently, I took a step that may seem insignificant to some, but it was a huge step for me. I sent an encouraging text to someone I do not like … a person who has caused great hurt to me and to those I love. The text was sincere and motivated by God’s example of love toward a sinner like me. I didn’t expect a reply, and none came—but that’s okay. I did not send it for any selfish reason; I simply did it “as unto the Lord.”
