Now, I know what you’re thinking. By the title, you thought I was going to talk about love, didn’t you? On the contrary, I am going to talk about how first impressions can be a big deal in the workplace.

Before I came to Mettle Ops, I was a volleyball coach, an associate at Michael Kors, a front desk receptionist at a salon, a waitress, etc.., and I can tell you that first impressions were so important at every single one of those jobs. How you carry yourself and how others perceive you will affect the transaction between you and the people around you. At Michael Kors, if I didn’t greet people in a friendly matter, they wouldn’t be as apt to buy anything under my care and my sales numbers wouldn’t be as high. At the salon, if I was rude to a guest when they first come in, they wouldn’t ever want to come back. Most importantly, as a waitress, if you weren’t smiling while talking to your tables then you wouldn’t get any money because all you would get is small, measly tips that you can’t live off of.

Here at Mettle Ops, I am trusted with the position of Front Desk Administration, and I know that anyone coming in needs to be greeted and taken care of, or their experience at Mettle Ops will be an easily forgotten one. My experience here has always been great because of the people I work with, so I would like other people to feel the same when they come to visit.

Besides business, first impressions are also just as important in day-to-day life. When you connect with others, it will make a world of difference if you carry yourself in a positive, lighthearted way so that others feel that positivity when conversing with you. That is how you can make long lasting and meaningful relationships.

All in all, hold yourself to a higher standard and be a positive light to others, and you will get more out of the world around you in business and in life.
