2024 – A New Year…Really?

Written by Anne Walter

Can it be?....2024 already!!...and it’s March!!...I would agree that I am behind the figurative “starting gate” for addressing the new year.  As I’ve always done at the end of any year, I have my customary review of the highs and lows, the successes and failures, and what I’m going to do differently based on all that information.  This time, in addition to my yearly review, I decided to add something extra to the process.  The concept of “anticipation.”  This would include a preliminary view that would look ahead to actively explore the additional possibilities for the new year.

I had the mindset that 2024 was going to be a great year and I thought to myself, “why do I feel this way?...and where did this thought originate from?” To be honest, I don’t have a definitive answer…it was just a feeling…a mindset that seemed to come out of nowhere, but I decided to embrace it and restructure my “roadmap” for 2024.

So, I jumped headfirst into this process!  I asked myself, “how am I going to approach the new year for success?  What am I looking forward to?  Am I on track to achieve my 2024 initial goals professionally?...personally?...and what about my personal happiness goals?  Am I accomplishing what I need to do for those as well?  Many times, they are left at the bottom of the list but are extremely important, because if you are not happy personally, you can’t attain true professional happiness either.  Those two areas are closely aligned and truly dependent on each other.

A review of the past is always beneficial.  It allows us to revisit memories that might hold a level of nostalgia as well as a reminder of what worked and what didn’t.  Did we get the results we needed for our continued success?  This shouldn’t be a task that we procrastinate on, but a revisit to a page in the book of who we are and what we are working toward in the short and long term.

I have the mindset that 2024 has been, and will continue to be, a great year!  Let’s continue to work toward the goals set forth for our professional success and personal happiness.  I only need to look at a calendar to see how fast time is passing, so let’s make each and every day count!
